FAQ

Q: What exactly is this project?

A: Last year our law firm had four teams of just our employees build structures of non-perishable food items in our education suite. The firm gave each employee a grocery store gift card to buy food. Each team was strategic in their buying depending on what they had decided to build. We had four teams competing against each other and we invited the Tempe Fire Department to judge who built the best structure. We then donated the food to the St. Mary’s Food Bank. We were shocked to realize that the food we collected fed over 300,000 families! We had so much fun that we decided to invite others in the industry to join us this year.

Q: You are giving each team a $50 gift card to get started. Are we limited to that $50?

A: No! In fact, we encourage teams to add food beyond what the $50 will buy. You can collect donations from your office, friends, family, or go shopping as a team. The more food you have, the bigger and better your structure will be, and the more food we can donate to St. Mary’s!

Q: How can I participate in this event?

A: There are many ways to participate:

If you are a community manager, your management company may be forming a team or two. If they are not, get the community or communities you manage to form a team and join in! Or we can place you on a team already formed. Smaller management companies may band together to form bigger teams as well!
If you are a board member, your community is welcome to form a team! We would love to see communities come together and join in. If you are an individual, we will have teams who will need individual people. Join the fun!

Q: How do we decide what to build?

A: You can get idea from the following websites:

www.canstruction.org
www.zarius.com

Your imagination is the limit! But keep in mind those structures were built over the course of many days with lots and lots of cans! The pictures from our gallery are probably a more realistic idea of what can be built in the time frame of 1 ½ hour. Less can be more! Be creative!

Q: Can my family and friends come cheer me on?

A: Absolutely! We would love to have a crowd cheering everyone on! This is all for a good cause and we will have enough food for everyone. The more the merrier!
